Dear Menands School Families,
I am honored to return to Menands School as your Building Principal. I will have the privilege to serve the students, families and staff members beginning July 1, 2020. I am excited for this opportunity and looking forward to developing partnerships with the school community.
This summer, I will begin my 20th year in education. The first 15 years of my career I was a classroom teacher at Menands School. I then spent two and a half years as the Embedded Staff Developer and Special Education Chairperson at Menands. For the last year and a half I have been the Assistant Director of Pupil Services with the North Colonie Central School District. In that role, I supervised the special programs, special education teachers and support staff at two elementary schools along with the reading, math, enrichment and occupational/physical therapy departments district-wide. My professional experience has involved working with diverse populations of students including general education, gifted, English Language Learners, and special education students.
From the moment I applied for the position of Building Principal at Menands School, I remember feeling excitement and energy throughout the hiring process in hope of being the successful candidate. In many ways, I feel like I am coming home.
Although I don’t officially start until July 1st, I have already had a chance to meet with families, staff and students through virtual opportunities. I am confident that the Menands School staff will continue meeting the intellectual, physical, and social/emotional needs of your children, our students. In partnership with you and your children, we are looking forward to the 2020-21 school year.
As an elementary principal, I realize the education of children is a challenging undertaking and cannot be accomplished without the assistance of parents and the surrounding community. I encourage parents and community members to be active participants in the education of our students. There are many ways to do this, but the easiest way, I find, is to maintain open lines of communication. I welcome your ideas and feedback anytime. If you have questions or concerns, or would like to simply connect, please feel free to email me at email@example.com.
In closing, I would like to thank the Menands School staff, Dr. Long, the Board of Education, and the community of Menands for giving me this opportunity. I will work diligently to continue to provide an excellent educational experience for the students of Menands School.
