7. BUSINESS MATTERS

Discussion Items

Diversity and Inclusivity Regional Forum- The district team that attended the April 4th forum will Share their thoughts, and discussion on subsequent actions will occur.
Dr. Long thanked everyone that participated. Dr. Long, Mr. Masline and Ms.Mercado spoke in regards to how important this is to the district and intend to  continue to work to make improvements in the future.

Goal Update- Dr. Long gave an update on the goals that were set for the year.
Building Project Update- Dr. Long informed the Board that the cafeteria would be open to the students after the Spring Break and that all of the work would be outside of the building through the end of the school year. Any staff health Concerns due to the project were addressed.

Enclosed for the information of the Board are copies of warrant # 15 Fund H  for February. Warrant #’s,47,49,50,51 Fund A, warrant #’s 16 and 17 Fund H and #2 EC for the month of March 2019.

2019-2020 Budget Adoption

Based on the information and materials discussed during the Board workshop earlier this week, the Board is expected to adopt the 2019-2020 budget.

8. ANNUAL BOCES BOARD ELECTION AND ADMINISTRATIVE BUDGET VOTE 2019-2020

Administrative Budget Vote

Resolved that the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Albany-Schoharie-Schenectady-Saratoga Counties be authorized to expend the sums set forth in the Administrative Budget document in the total amount of $11,909,690 during the school year 2019-20 and to raise  such sum by assessments to component school districts, non-component school districts, other BOCES and other sources as required by law.

12. SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS

  • Recent Illness- Dr. Long discussed what led to the decision to close school on April 2, 2019 due to illness. She thanked the school nurse Ms. D’Ambro for her help.
  • NYS Testing- Dr. Long said that the testing went well in the district. The glitch at SED did not impact Menands due to the fact that we still use a paper test as opposed to the computer based test.
  • Upcoming Holiday Break- Dr. Long wished that everyone enjoy Spring Break. On another note Dr. Long spoke in regards to the School Safety Conference that she and some of the staff attended. Stating that it was very informational.

13. PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS

  • Drama Club Production-Mrs Schroeder acknowledged all that took part in the school play including staff member Ms. Nicoll.  It was very impressive. Everyone did a great job.
  • Author Visit- Was very successful. The children enjoyed having Amanda Coonradt visit.
  • Special Education Workshop- Mrs. Schroeder thanked everyone that worked at putting this event together. She said it was a success. All that attended really enjoyed the program.
  • Yusef Westerman Talent Show- Will be tomorrow. They have about 33 children participating.

16. MISCELLANEOUS

Mr. Blanchet spoke to the success of the Track Club this year with over 45 children taking part and added that he enjoys the wonderful diverse community that there is at the Menands School District.

Mrs. Mercado said that she would like to continue the discussion that was started at the Diversity and Inclusivity Regional Forum. Also, mentioned the upcoming PTA events such as The Internet Workshop.

Mr. Masline thanked the PTA for putting together the workshops.
