9. APPROVAL OF MINUTES                     

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District accept  the minutes of both the July 15, 2019 Re-Organizational Board Meeting and Regular Board Meeting.

Wellness Committee Membership- Dr. Long would like to have further discussion on ways to build on the current Wellness Committee. 
Draft Goals 2019-2020- Dr. Long gave an update on where the district is at with the goals for 2019-2020.

Reserve Transfer – June 2019

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the authorization of the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District be given to reduce up to $75,000 from the Tax Certiorari Reserve for the 2018-2019 school year.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the authorization of the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District be given to transfer up to $12,000 to the Repair Reserve for the 2018-2019 school year.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the authorization of the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District be given to transfer up to $28,000 to the Employee Benefit Liability Reserve for the 2018-2019 school year.

Budget Transfer June 2019

 

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the authorization of the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the enclosed budget transfers for June 2019 in excess of $10,000.

Treasurer’s Reports

Enclosed are the Treasurer’s Report for the months of June and July 2019. 

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the Treasurer’s Report for the months of June and July 2019.

Tax Rate for 2019-2020

Enclosed is a memo from Mrs. Cietek dated August 5, 2019 outlining the 2019-2020 tax rate.

Resolution WHEREAS the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District has been  authorized by the voters at the Annual School District Meeting to raise for the budget of the 2019-2020 school year a sum not to exceed  $9,038,667.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education fix the equalized tax rates by towns and confirm the extension of the taxes as they appear on the following tax roll:

2019-2020 Safety Plan

School Districts must update, and Boards of Education must annually approve District Safety Plans. Mrs. Schroeder has updated the plan to reflect current information and it is Dr. Long’s recommendation that the Board approves the plan.  

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approves the 2019-2020 District Safety Plan as recommended by the Superintendent.

Contracts for Approval 
 Special Education Services Contract – Advanced Therapy

Enclosed for the board if a copy of the Advanced Therapy contract for physical therapy and occupational therapy services for the 2019-2020 school year.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the contract between Menands School and Advanced Therapy for physical therapy and occupational therapy services for the 2019-2020 school year.

Policy # 5300- Annual approval of Code of Conduct

13. PERSONNEL MATTERS
Appointments
 1 FTE Probationary Special Education Teacher – Michelle Ervin

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District does hereby appoint Michelle Ervin to a 4-year probationary appointment in the 1 FTE Special Education tenure area on MS Step 2 of the current Menands Association of Teachers Salary Schedule. Ms. Ervin’s probationary period will begin on February 1, 2019 and will end on or about January 31, 2023. A copy of Ms. Ervin’s resume has been included for the Board.

1 FTE  Probationary Elementary Appointment – Rachel McQuade

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District does hereby appoint Rachel McQuade to a 4-year probationary appointment in the 1 FTE Elementary Education tenure area on Bachelors Step 1 of the current Menands Association of Teachers Salary Schedule.  Ms. McQuade’s probationary period will begin on September 1, 2019 and will end on or about August 31, 2023. A copy of Ms.McQuade’s resume is attached.

0.3 FTE Speech and Language Pathologist- Ashley Willson

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District does hereby appoint Ashley Willson to a 0.3 FTE Speech and Language Pathologist teaching position on MS Step 7 of the current Menands Association of Teachers Salary Schedule for the 2019-2020 school year.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District does hereby appoint Erin Lange to a one year temporary appointment as Library Media Specialist for the 2019-2020 school year on Step 1 of the current Menands Association of Teachers Salary Schedule.  A copy of Ms.Lange’s resume is attached.

Substitute Teaching Position – Andrea Kostik

Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education  amend the  appointment of Andrea Kostik, extending the end date through September 30, 2019.

Resolution   BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District appoint  Andrea Kostic to a substitute teaching position commencing on April 29,   2019 through September 30, 2019 at the per diem rate of $180.

           Civil Service Appointment – Jaylon Glasgow- 1.0 FTE Custodial Worker – Probationary

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the probationary appointment of Jaylon Glasgow to the Civil Service Labor Class 1.0 position of Custodial Worker effective August 13, 2019 with compensation according to the current non-instructional salary schedule.  The probationary appointment period will be 52 weeks from August 13, 2019 through August 13, 2020.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the amendment of the Employment Agreement by and between the Menands Union Free School District and Dr. Maureen Long, Superintendent of Schools, per attached Addendum, dated August 9, 2019.

CSE/CPSE Recommendations

 It is requested that the Board approve the attached list of staff members compensation during 2019-2020 school year for work performed outside of the regular school day as per the MAT Contract.

Annual Fire Inspection

The annual fire inspection of the Menands Union Free District was conducted on April 26, 2019. The report is filed in the office of the District Treasurer.  

15. SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS 

Building Project- Dr. Long stated that the project is moving along. She is optimistic that the building will be ready for the start of school.
Staffing- Dr. Long congratulated the new employees that were approved tonight. The district is working on a few open positions and hope to have every spot filled for opening day.

Next Board of Education Meeting – September 9, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. 
17.  MISCELLANEOUS

Mr. Nevins attended the Village Safety Night and said that it was a great event.

Mrs. Jaskula mentioned that the PTA is hosting a Kindergarten Meet and Greet on 8/28 at 6 pm in Ganser-Smith Memorial Park.

Ms. Mercado said the PTA is hosting a Bicycle Safety Day on Saturday 10/5.
