End-of-year update from Dr. Long and Mrs. Cannavo

Dear Parents & Families,

It is hard to believe we are entering the final week of the school year.  We wanted to send out one final communication with some important information & updates:

COVID Protocols Remain in Place in Schools

It was announced this week that many protocols in NYS are being eliminated since the state has reached a 70% vaccination rate.  This is not the case for pre-K through 12 public schools.  With the exception of the change to mask wearing outdoors, all COVID related protocols will remain in place through the end of the school year.  As we receive updates and guidance over the summer and plan for next school year, we will provide updates.

Celebrating Juneteenth

In celebration of the declaration of Juneteenth as a Federal holiday, a number of our classrooms participated in relevant activities today.  In the words of Vice President Kamala Harris: “. . . we must learn from our history, and we must  teach our children our history.”  The holiday has already been incorporated into the 2021-22 school calendar that was adopted by the board earlier this year.

Before & After Care for 2021-2022 School Year

We are pleased to announce the district will be partnering with the Colonie Youth Center (CYC) to provide before and after care here at Menands School for the 2021 – 2022 school year.

Return of Materials for Remote Students

As has been indicated by remote teachers, return of materials for our remote learners will be as follows:

  • Grades K-2 Tuesday, 6/22 from 12:30-2
  • Grades 3-5 Wednesday, 6/23 12:30-2
  • Grades 6-8 Tuesday, 6/22 or Wednesday, 6/23 12:30-2

Thank You!

Last and certainly not least, we know this atypical school year has been a challenging one.  We want to thank you for your partnership, understanding and cooperation.  We could not have gotten through this school year without you.

Certainly do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Have a great summer!
