Menands School to Honor Juneteenth

The Menands Union Free School District Board will act to recognize June 19, 2020 and observe Juneteenth. This is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It serves as a reminder of the hardships and losses suffered by African Americans in their struggle to achieve freedom. We believe it is important to commemorate such an important day and history and reflect upon the freedom and civil rights of all Americans. We do so following the example set by the state of New York, our neighboring City of Albany and in conjunction with the Village of Menands.
