Oct. 23 update from Dr. Long and Mrs. Cannavo

Dear Parents and Families:

As we head into the last week of October, we continue to aim to be the first and best source of information for Menands School news and announcements.

Updated guidance on returning to school following an illness

Based on the latest information from the NYSDOH and direction from the Albany County Department of Health we have updated some of our protocols regarding symptomatic students and their return to school

This includes information for students who may have pre-existing conditions with symptoms that mirror COVID symptoms. If after reviewing this information you believe this would apply to your child, we would ask you to reach out to our school nurse at 518-465-4561 ext. 109, so she can work with you and your child’s physician to minimize any time away from school.

Upcoming Events – Open to in-person and remote students

Red Ribbon Week

Thanks to Mr. Ahl and Mrs. Bettinger, Monday, October 26 kicks off Red Ribbon Week! Be sure to wear red on Monday to support a drug free life. See the full schedule of activities.

For our families of virtual learners, please send photos to yearbook@menands.org.

Pumpkin Contest

Mrs. Ford, with help from Ms. Lange, is coordinating a virtual Create a Character Pumpkin Contest. It was featured last week on CBS6! Watch the segment and see more details about the contest.

The deadline to enter your pumpkin is October 30!

A special thanks to Mr. Aaron Cagwin, our Public Information specialist from Capital Region BOCES, who has been doing a great job capturing photos and videos of the great things that are happening here at school, and sharing them via our web page and Facebook. Our website continues to be the best place to find the most current and updated information. If you have not already, please like Menands School on Facebook to see exclusive content, such as photos and videos.

We have also been utilizing our school messenger system to share out timely information and reminders.  To date, we have sent messages using the voice and email features. In the near future we will expand to text communications as well. More information will be forthcoming.

Reminders on safety precautions

  • Thank you for continuing to complete the Daily Health Attestation by 7:30 a.m. This helps to ensure the safety of all students as they arrive each morning.
  • Please be mindful that the school zone speed limit is 15 MPH. Thank you to Menands PD for being on site to help remind parents and monitor this to, again, ensure the health and safety of our students.

As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us here at 518-465-4561 ext. 119.

Have a great weekend!

Dr. Maureen A. Long
