Budget Workshop Immediately Following 

The regular Board of Education meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. for the Public Session and followed by a Budget Workshop. There will be no action or discussion other than a motion to go into Executive Session immediately following the Budget Workshop if necessary.  

PLEASE NOTE:  During the Public Comment Sessions, members of the community may address the Board on agenda and non-agenda items.  The Board President may limit remarks of individual speakers to a reasonable time. Speakers must identify themselves and the topic on which they would like to make remarks.

9. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District accept  the minutes of the January 13, 2020 meeting.

Enclosed for the information of the Board are copies of warrant #’s 35, 36 and 38 Fund A, # 2 EC,  # 15 and 16 Fund H for the month of January 2020.

Disposal of Items  

Superintendent’s Recommendation: That the Board of Education in accordance with district policy 6900 authorize the disposition of books as per the attached list.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the disposal of books which cease to be of use or of value to the district as per the attached list.

 Donation from Stewart’s Shops

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District accept the donation from Stewart’s Shops in the amount of $200.00.

11. PERSONNEL MATTERS

Resignations

Retirement- Antonietta Schroeder

 

Enclosed is a letter of Resignation for the purpose of Retirement from Antonietta Schroeder, Principal, effective July 13, 2020.

 

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District upon the recommendation of the Superintendent approves the resignation for the purpose of retirement of Antonietta Schroeder effective July 13, 2020.

Mrs. Jaskula thanked Mrs. Schroeder for dedication to Menands School.

Mrs. Schroeder Thanked the Board of Education and said that she has enjoyed her time at Menands.

Appointments

Substitute Teaching Position – Sally Sharkey 

Resolution   BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District appoint  Sally Sharkey to a substitute teaching position commencing on or about February 10, 2020 through on or about June 10, 2020 at the per diem rate of $180.

Substitute Teaching Position – Susan Volo 

Resolution   BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District appoint  Susan Volo to a substitute teaching position commencing on or about  February 10, 2020 through on or about June 10, 2020 at the per diem rate of $180.

Substitute Teachers – Fully Cleared

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the following substitute teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

Increase Existing Compensation Time

Increase the existing compensation time to include an additional 200 hours per the remainder of the year for the Maintenance Mechanic position. 

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the increased amount of  compensation to an additional 200 hours for the remainder of the year for the Maintenance Mechanic Position.

12. BOARD OF EDUCATION MATTERS

School Calendar 2020-2021

Enclosed is the proposed 2020-2021 school year calendar for the Menands Union Free School District.

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District adopt the 2020-2021 school calendar as submitted.

CSE/CPSE Recommendations 

Resolution BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Menands Union Free School District approve the CSE/CPSE  recommendations as submitted.

14. SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS 

CYO trip to U Albany- Dr. Long thanked Mr. Nevins and Ms. Boule for organizing the basketball game at U Albany. She said it was nice to see the kids play and have fun. It was a great event. She really enjoyed it. 
Notification System- Dr. Long followed up with the progress that has been made in making a decision about which notification system will work best for the district. 
CASDA Meeting- Dr. Long is finalizing the members of the Diversity Committee and plans to meet this month.
Legislative Breakfast- Dr. Long attended the breakfast on Friday and thought it had some good information and was well attended.

15.  PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS

Winter Concert- Mrs. Schroeder thanked Mrs. Hayes and the students for a fantastic performance. It was a lot of fun. 
Parent Workshop- Mrs. Schroeder thanked the PTA for organizing the event. She thought that it was very informational and would like to see it expand in the future. Mr. Masline asked if it could possibly be recorded and put on the website.  
PTA Update- The next meeting is ⅖ at 6:30 and Family Fun Night will be on 2/28 at 5:30.

16. INFORMATIONAL MATERIAL

Citizen/Scholar/Honor Roll Assembly – Tuesday February 11th at 8:45.
Winter Recess – February 17th  – February 21st 
PTA Fun Night- Friday, February 28th 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Next Board of Education Meeting – Monday, March 9th at 6:30 p.m.

17.  MISCELLANEOUS  

 

Mr. Nevins shared information from a Census meeting that he had attended.

Mr. Blanchet thanked Mrs. Schroeder for her dedication to the Menands School over the years. 

He also shared his thoughts in regards to the current MAT contract negotiations. Mr. Masline asked him to please put his questions to the Board of Education in writing.

Mrs. Jaskula mentioned that February is Read for Ronald McDonald House. She asked everyone for their support for a great cause. 

Mrs. Wilson said that the Multicultural Fair will be held on 4/3. 

Mr. Masline reminded the BOE that the 2020 Capital Conference will be on 2/9-2/10.
