Library Media Specialist/STEAM K-8

Menands School is accepting applications for a full time position for a Library Media Specialist/ STEAM Teacher.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing STEAM instruction to students in grades K-6 and providing oversight of our Library Media Center and relevant instruction. 
  • Applicants must possess NYS certification, as a Library Media Specialist or in elementary education or a related field. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience, working knowledge of instructional technology, experience with project based learning, and who are willing to become involved in extracurricular activities and be a contributing member of the school community.

Building Substitute

Menands School is accepting applications for a Building Substitute to begin as soon as possible and through the end of the school year.  Use this OLAS link to apply.

  • The successful candidate will report daily and will be assigned as needed, to any of our K-8 classrooms or learning environments. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or holding NYS teaching certification. 
  • The rate of compensation will be $110 per day.

Night Custodial Position

This is routine work requiring the efficient performance of a variety of cleaning tasks. The work involves the execution of these tasks through a well-established routine. Direct supervision is received from a higher-level supervisor. The incumbent does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Dusts chairs, tables desks and other furniture
  • Clean and sanitize tables and desks
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, toilets and sinks
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums and waxes floors with various equipment designed for those purposes
  • Floor stripping and waxing
  • Floor burnishing
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse;
  • Cleans and polishes furniture;
  • Performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks;
  • Performs a variety of related duties as required;
  • May clean blackboards and erasers;
  • May monitor restrooms and report violations of non-smoking policy;
  • Set up and breakdown of school events
  • Moving furniture

Full performance knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:

  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written direction
  • Ability to get along well with others
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
    position
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. repetitively
  • Must be able to wear and operate a backpack vacuum
  • Working knowledge of floor scrubber, burnisher, carpet cleaners preferred
  • Weekend availability required as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR
  • Three months of building cleaning experience; OR
  • Successful completion of a job training or job readiness program.

Special Requirements
A valid New York State driver’s license may be required, at the discretion of the appointing authority.
