Students in several grade levels are taking part in the Extended School Year (ESY) program to ensure they retain the skills and knowledge they learned during the last school year and to prepare for the coming school year.

During a recent visit to Nicole Kaloyeros’ classroom, students in the grades 3-5 program were practicing their knowledge of the various means of traveling, favorite ways to travel and their favorite foods to eat while traveling.

Matthew Munga is a frequent flier and said he likes salty foods while William Gifford is a fan of car travel and sweet food.Teacher pointing and smiling

Asked about spending most of their summer weeks in school, the students said they enjoyed it.

“I like seeing all of my friends,” Munga said.

Meanwhile, classmate Logan Williams said he enjoys summer learning because he likes “learning new things.”

Noting that the class had moved to a different room once the regular school year concluded, Gifford said what he enjoys most about the summer session is the new room.Student at the board writing an answer
