‘Wicked’-ly Menands: Students take part in world-wide singalong

Dozens of choir members took part in the Wicked Worldwide Singalong on Jan. 22. Choir members sing

Menands students joined their counterparts from around the world singing the V26 Wicked medley, a specially arranged selection of songs from the award-winning musical Wicked.

An 8,000 person-strong choir with special guest star Emma Kingston—who is currently performing in the show—led the singalong from The O2 in London as Menands students sang and watched their peers do the same Hong Kong and Nigeria.

The telecast The goal of the singalong was to have a global celebration that unites children everywhere.

An estimated 300,000 youths took part, according to a website the organizers maintain.

The Menands Choir will sing the same medley on June 2 at the MVP Arena in Albany as part of a local performance by the American Young Voices organization that will bring choirs from around the region together, said teacher Connie Marie Rao.
