April 22: Friday Update

Good Afternoon,

We hope everyone is enjoying their Spring Recess! As we prepare to return to school next week, we had a few updates and reminders we wanted to share:

At their April 11 meeting, the board approved a revision to the 2021-22 school calendar.  Friday May 27 will now be a day off, extending the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

There will be a regular meeting of the Board of Education Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Media Center. Members of the public are welcomed and encouraged to attend. The meeting will also be streamed live, the agenda and meeting link will be available on the webpage.

This upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday, our students in grades 3-8 will take the New York State Math Exam. Like with the previously administered ELA exams, we are transitioning to computer-based testing. In preparation for these exams, students have been working with their teachers to acclimate to the online format. Please make sure students are well rested and on time for school during testing.

The PTA Yard Sale originally scheduled for the end of this month has been postponed to the Fall. Once the date has been rescheduled, we will be sure to update you.

As we look ahead to next month, the Menands School seventh grade class will be hosting a Brooks Barbeque Fundraiser from 4:15-6 p.m. on May 4. The cost is $15 per meal, and proceeds will support their eighth grade activities and events. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, please contact the class advisor Mr. Herrmann: lherrmann@menads.org.

Menands School Yearbooks are available for order through May 18 at a cost of $18.  Any questions regarding yearbooks can be directed to yearbook@menands.org

Last, and certainly not least, we are pleased to announce the latest installment next week on the Menands StoryWalk®  on the purple trail on the Sage Estates Trails, The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. If you have the opportunity, take a walk on the trail and enjoy this wonderful book! Speaking of books, our Spring Book Fair will begin Friday April 29 and run through May 6.

We look forward to seeing our students return on Monday. Enjoy the rest of your break and the upcoming weekend!
