Amanda Furfaro-Martinez has joined the Menands School as its new Library Media Specialist.
Furfaro-Martinez started the week of Feb. 2 after previously holding the same position in the Cairo-Durham Central School District.
A Brooklyn native, she has worked throughout the Capital Region, including as a library teaching assistant at Colonie Central High School and as a teacher assistant in the Albany City School District.
Furfaro-Martinez is also active in the community, having served for three years in the Midway Fire Department’s auxiliary and co-directing several musicals for middle school students in Colonie. She was active in community theater as a youth and is still involved in the Free Comic Book Day event at an Albany business.
She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and the University of Albany, where she attended graduate school.
Not surprisingly, Furfaro-Martinez describes herself as a bibliophile.
“I am a huge lover of books and have a huge home library—which includes lots of rare comic books,” she said.
The new librarian said she is looking forward to getting to know the Menands School and community.
“I am so excited to be part of the Menands School community and can’t wait to become more involved,” she said.
