Menands students were inspired to never give up, encourage others and do their best during an early November assembly.
Using yo-yo tricks such as “the breakaway” and “the man on the flying trapeze” to bring “oohs” and “ahhs” from students in grades prek through five, Noah Klauser of The Ned Show guided the young scholars on a discussion about being good citizens.
The Ned Show is a character education program designed to help kids become champions at school and in life, according to their website.
The NED’s Mindset Mission program features a presenters such as Klauser using a cardboard cutout of a boy named NED, a yo-
yo, a puppet and some magic tricks to talk to the kids about character.
While discussing NED’s ‘mission’ of climbing Mount Everest, Klauser drove home a strong message. Third grade student recited that message after the assembly.
“I learned that you should never give up, you should encourage others and you should always do your,” she said.
Klauser expanded on that message: Never Give Up encourages students to keep trying, especially when things are difficult; encourage others teaches the importance of showing kindness and compassion to classmates and do your best promotes striving for your best effort in school and life.
Principal Kathleen Wylie said students enjoy the annual presentation.
“The students remained engaged and really into the presentation throughout the assembly,” she said. “It’s a cute way to drive home an important message.”
