New treasurer named; has history of working in Menands

Head and shoulders shotA familiar face to Menands is returning in a new position.

Sarah Horaczek has been named District Treasurer for Menands.

She previously spent eight years at Menands as the music teacher before leaving to pursue opportunities in school district administration.

With certification in teaching, school building leadership and school district leadership, Horaczek has held a variety of positions in education, including serving as an educational technology Integration specialist, kindergarten to age 21 special education principal, director of special education and student support services and a high school principal.

She will complete her school district business leader certification in 2027.

A Mohonasen Central School District graduate, Horaczek earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Baldwin-Wallace University, master’s degree in education from the University of Hartford and certificate of advanced graduate studies from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership at the University of Albany.

She said she is looking forward to the variety that serving as district treasurer provides.

“I love that no two days are the same and I’m able to support our community in a variety of ways. One minute I’m looking at long-term financial forecasting, and the next I’m onboarding and welcoming new staff to our district,” Horaczek said.

The Schenectady resident is a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club and volunteers with her husband at the City Mission of Schenectady. As a hiker, she is working on hiking the 46 peaks of the Adirondacks that are 4,000 feet or taller, having completed 18 of them so far.
