Menands School Unveils Conceptual Building Design Which Will Make Vision a Reality

The Menands School Community has spent considerable time over the past year and a half, with the assistance of Robert Hendriks of Educational Legacy Planning and the Architectural firm CSArch, to develop a vision for our school and plan to make that vision a reality.

The multiple conversations, planning sessions and forums resulted in the development of a vision, a subsequent “Ed Spec” and ultimately a conceptual building redesign. The work and pr
ogress to date have been captured via both video and print documents, and can be accessed via the school websitw: using the "Menands Legacy Plan" link, or at We look forward to your attendance and to sharing our vision for our school.  Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Maureen Long via email: or by phone (518) 465-4561.

Next Steps in the High School Decision Making Process

Menands School held ita second annual High School Fair on Tuesday, January 12.  It was well attended during the day by our students, and some of them even brought their parents back for the evening session!  Our eighth grade students have the opportunity to choose from five different high schools:  Watervliet, South Colonie; Heatly (Green Island); Shaker; and Tech Valley.

We are ready to take the next step in the process of helping you and your child make an informed choice about high school.    We have provided you and your child the opportunity to meet with the leaders in the high schools.  Now, it is up to you and your child to make an informed choice and indicate to the Counseling office what high school your child will attend.   We need this information by February 12, 2016 If your child intends to apply to Tech Valley, there is an application due to their admissions office by this date, as well.   It is also important for you to get in touch with the high school of your choice in order to start receiving information regarding their registration dates, parent nights, sports, clubs, etc.  Please follow the link for the form to turn in by February 12, 2016.
If you are still uncertain, or would like more information from these schools, in accordance with FERPA (The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) laws we are unable to provide the various high school districts with your contact information and address without your permission.   Please follow the link for the form to turn in by February 12, 2016.  (Ferpa form)

A Vision for Menands School: Menands Legacy Planning Web Page

The Board of Education in collaboration with representatives from the entire Menands School Community continues their work of developing a vision of our school for the future. This vision will guide decisions relative to our building and facilities and a potential building improvement project.   Any project or improvements should be rooted in that vision - what we want for the children of our community, and not simply about bricks and mortar.  With the expertise, and under the guidance of Robert Hendriks, of Educational Legacy Planning, faculty, staff and members of the greater Menands community have been involved in the conversation.  This work has been captured on our own Menands Legacy Plan web site which can be accessed at the following link:

The vision will be finalized in the coming weeks, and the work to achieve it will continue.  Please continue to check the web site for updates and information.
