Kindergarten Field Trip to Proctor's
On Wednesday, October 22nd, kindergarten students attended the Empire State Youth Orchestra's performance of "Symphonic Landscapes." The concert introduced students to music by American composers and featured local high school art work connected to the theme of America's landscapes. In music class, kindergarten students prepared by learning about the instruments in the orchestra, the conductor, and how composers write music to make us feel a certain mood or picture a scene. Students listened to the selected works in the weeks leading up to the performance and created their own art work of America's landscapes. This field trip and the work leading up to it highlights real-world learning and supports many of the New York State Common Core Learning Standards in English Language Arts.

Our Special First Day
Wednesday, September 3, was a wonderful
first day of school. The students gathered
together for the annual Welcome Back Breakfast, sponsored by the
Menands Association of Teachers. Miss Albert, chairperson of
the event, Dr. Long, and Mrs. Schroeder all inspired the children
with their opening remarks. Miss Albert reminded everyone that
they are special and, in a project this autumn in art class, the
student body will all paint individual rocks demonstrating each
child's uniqueness. Dr. Long stressed to the children that
they can make a difference in this world and challenged them to
complete projects that will give to the community. Mrs.
Schroder spoke to the student body about the school's theme this
year of random acts of kindness, and encouraged each child to
perform one every day. It looks like it is going to be a very
special year, and one that the students will long remember. (photos)
