Legal Notice


"Pursuant to section 300.573 (b) of CFR of the Federal Regulations 20, the Menands Union Free School District is destroying all records of students who received special education services with birth dates prior to 1990.  Students falling within this time frame who wish to obtain their records from the Office of Special Education, must contact Lisa Buoniconto prior to June 29, 2017 at 465-4561 ext. 124.  Records not claimed by this date will be removed from the files and destroyed.

Hudson Shores Rotary RYLA Youth Leadership Awards

As an important part of it’s Youth Services Project HSR is currently seeking scholarship applications from high school students who will be Juniors next year. These scholarships are to attend/participate in the full Leadership Training Program which is held on one Saturday a month from September until March. Approximately 30 students, representing Rotary Clubs from North Creek to Southern Rensselaer Co. and from Granville to Sharon Springs, will participate. Students who live in Menands, Watervliet, Maplewood and Green Island are eligible to apply for the HSR Scholarship. A packet with detailed program information and an application form are available (by clicking here) and the Menands Village Office as well the high schools in the area served by HSR. All applications must be received by June 21.


Thank you for the passage of the Menands Union Free School District Budget for school year 2017-2018.  There were 110" yes" votes and 30 "no."  This is a 79% pass rate.  Thank you for your support.

Citizens and Scholars, Senior Citizen, and Rotary Dinner Held

On Friday, May 12, Menands School honored their Citizens and Scholars, Senior Citizens, and Rotary members.  It was a wonderful evening and enjoyed by all who attended. (photos)


Evening of the Arts Held

On Tuesday, May 16, and Evening of the Arts was held, honoring the artistic accomplishments of our students.  An Art Show was held displaying the art work of all of our students, and a Spring Concert followed, showcasing the students musical abilities.  Thanks go to Ms. Pat Testo, art teach, and Ms. Lauren Bergeron, music teacher, for all their hard work.   (art show)  (concert)


Board Adopts 2017-2018 Budget

At their meeting on April 11, 2017, the Menands UFSD Board of Education adopted the 2017 -18 budget in the amount of $8,548,159.  Despite facing a reduction in state aid and increasing costs, the budget maintains all current programs and remains sensitive to the tax paying public with a modest tax increase below the tax cap.

Interested community members are encouraged to learn more about the adopted budget at our next Board of Education meeting and Budget Hearing on Monday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Menands School Library.  All school district residents can also expect a budget newsletter in advance of the vote.  The vote will be held on Tuesday, May 16 from noon-9:00 p.m. at Menands School.

Q3 Honor Assembly

On April 28 the Honors Assembly for Q3 was held.  Citizens and Scholars, Honor Roll, Elks Poster Contest, and Honorable Mention Winners from the NY Council of Mayors "If I Were Mayor..." Contest  were all honored.  (photos)


Cultural Fair Held

On the evening of March 23, a very special event was held at the school. The 2017 Cultural Fair, a Passport to the World, was celebrated and it was truly amazing.  Nineteen countries. representing the nationalities of the students at the school were represented in informative booths. In addition, students marched into the gym with flags representing many of the countries of the world. The students also performed dances and songs of their nationalities. The evening was sponsored by the PTA and many thanks go out to Mrs. Jennifer Wilson and her committee for organizing a truly awe inspiring evening. (photos)


James and the Giant Peach Performed

The Menands School Drama Club, under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Cannavo and Mrs. Lauren Bergeron, presented James and the Giant Peach on the evening of March 18. The student performers were wonderful and the production was enjoyed by all. (photos)


Author Visit

On March 13, author Jarrett Krosoczka visited the school and met with the student body.  He delighted the children with his stories of becoming an author, and demonstrated some of his techniques for illustration.  Thanks go to the PTA for sponsoring this event. (photos)

Scott Losee and Don Mannion Receive Award

Scott Losee and Don Mannion were honored with the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) Friends of Education Award on February 16th at the Friends of Education Dinner. CASDA presents this award to recognize the selfless contributions of individuals who dedicate themselves to serving students and the school community (more) (photos)


PTA Sponsors Middle School Family Fun Night

On February 10 the PTA sponsored a Family Fun Night for our Middle School students.  As you can tell from the photos, everyone had a great time!  (photos)


Mayor Meg Grenier Visits School

The Village of Menands Mayor Meg Grenier came to school on the morning of February 2 to speak to our 8th grade students about her position as mayor, as they prepare to participate in a statewide essay contest hosted by the New York State Conference of Mayors.  The essay topic is: “If I were mayor I would . . .”

We welcome Mayor Meg and are excited our 8th grade students will be participating in this opportunity. (photos)


Winter Concert Held

The annual winter concert was held on Thursday evening, January 19. The band performed and students in grades K-7 sang.  It was a wonderful evening. (photos)


High School Fair Held

A high school fair was held at Menands School.  Students in grades 7 and 8 participated. Menands students are able to attend one of five area high schools: Shaker High School in North Colonie Central School District, Colonie Central High School (South Colonie), Watervliet High School, Heatly High School (Green Island), or Tech Valley High School.  Representatives of those schools met with the prospective students.   photos


Menands Conducts Spelling Bee

On January 6 Menands School conducted their annual spelling bee. 17 class champions in grades 4-8 participated and were cheered on by their teachers and classmates.  photos


PTA K-5 Dance Held

On December 9 the PTA held a dance for students in grades Kindergarten through five, complete with DJ Todd Moffre. The students were accompanied by their parents and a good time was had by all!  (photos)

The 33rd Annual Menands School Turkey Trot Held

On Friday, November 18, the annual Turkey Trot was held. The students had a great day runnning and everyone had fun.



Pumpkin/Literary Character Contest

Facilities Construction & Renovation Bond Proposal

The referendum passed with a high approval rate. 146 voters turned out, with 96 voting yes and 50 voting no.  This is a pass rate of 66%.  Thank all of you for your participation and support in leading up to the vote.  The District is excited about the opportunities this project will provide for our students and our school.

Grade 8 Goes to Camp Chingachgook

From September 12-September 14, eighth graders went to Camp Chingachgook in Lake George.  They completed team building initiatives, did archery, climbed the high ropes and had a campfire with songs and skits!  It was a wonderful trip and the class really learned and enjoyed themselves. Very Special First Day of School

School started on Wednesday, September 7, and we had a wonderful day!  The Menands Association of Teachers sponsored the annual Welcome Back to School Breakfast, and this year the theme was the Olympics. There was a competition between all the grades and lots of fun for all.  What a great way to start the year! Update about Emergency Communication

Through the Village of Menands, we have an additional way of communicating changes in the school day schedule with you.  Through the new Everbridge notification system (please note this is a change from the Code Red notifiation system that we previously used), the school can send emergency messages to your home phone, cell phone, computer, smart phone and iPad.  All parents and guardians are urged to sign up for Everbridge, as this will make it much easier to communicate with you about emergencies and/or important notifications.  To register, go to Everbridge Resident Alert SystemOnce you have enrolled in the Everbridge notification system be sure to select to receive "Menands School Notifications".  Please remember to keep your phone numbers and email addresses up to date.
