School officials are being neighborly to village and fire company officials following the devastating fire that significantly damaged the village fire and police stations and village hall.
The school will be home for the foreseeable future to meetings of the village board, fire company and fire company auxiliary, Superintendent Jennifer Cannavo said.
Additionally, the school has agreed to host Election Day voting in November with the 2026-27 school calendar being adjusted to ensure no students will be in school during the election.
“We have had a strong relationship with the village that goes back decades. We are doing whatever is necessary to ensure that village operations can continue during these difficult times,” she said.
On May 24, a fire broke out in the fire station, which is located at 250 Broadway in the village. Believed to have started at or near one of the trucks, the blaze reportedly caused heavy damage to the department’s fire trucks, as well as the rest of the building, which includes the police station and village hall.
Besides assisting with the practical needs of village operations, school faculty and staff are also showing their emotional support for the fire firefighters and auxiliary.
Students are working on a project that will be presented to the fire company in the future and, on Thursday, students are encouraged to wear red in support of the firefighters.
“It’s important that the fire company – and all village officials – understand that we have appreciated their support over the years and that we are here to support them now,” Cannavo said.
