May 31: Safety Procedures

Dear Menands Families,

The past few weeks have not been easy, as our nation continues to process the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. There has been an increased spotlight on school safety in light of recent events, and with that, we would like to share an overview of our safety procedures with you.

Building safety and security
During the school day, all points of entry to the school and district offices remain locked. Visitors must use an intercom to state their name and the purpose of the visit to gain entry, and must sign in at the main office with valid identification.

Our district, in collaboration with local law enforcement and a health-safety-risk management team from Capital Region BOCES, maintains and updates a district-wide safety plan. This plan is updated annually to ensure protocols are up-to-date for the safety of our students and staff.

Menands Police Department is routinely on-campus during morning drop-off to ensure students arrive at the building safely, and have recently committed to stationing an officer on campus every day for the rest of the school year. Officer PJ Stone will patrol the grounds and remain on-site throughout the day, including drop-off and pick-up.

Update contact information

To ensure you receive these key communications from us, please call Liz Mentiply in our district office at 518-465-4561 ext. 101 with any updates to your contact information.
